The Making Process "Go Green Ottoman Chair"

Interview Session With The Target Community

Group members' reflections

REFLECTION FOR WORKSHOP

Mixlly Chron Uyang

We are required to form a team of 4-5 in a group where our group have 2 males and 3 females. First thing first,we get to introduce each other before we choose our group leader. We choose Awangku Mohammad Iqbal as our group leader and he will make strategies for our project. My team members are  friendly and easy to work with as they all are responsible and hardworking members.

Gerard Lian Lusat

First of all, we were divided into a few groups. Each group was required to have at least 4 members in the group. We chose to have 5 members in our group. We voted Awangku Mohd Iqbal to be our leader to lead us in this project. I personally  have known him since secondary school. I know that we can trust him to be a good leader in our group because his leadership skills in secondary school was proven. After that, he immediately divided our tasks so that we can finish this project early so that we can focus on other subjects as well.

Nurmala Mohd Amin

The moment we were assigned with the group project, I straight away went to find four other group members to form a group consisted of five people in total. I was invited into a Whatsapp group for our group discussion, and we have been assigned with our own task through the group discussion. I realised that group discussion is a significant part in this group project because it is the part in which we were able to gather information from each group members and it also helps to avoid confusion among group members. Therefore, it was crucial to make sure that everyone shows good teamwork and actively engaged in the group discussion. I also believed that by dividing the task equally we could get things done easily and faster since everyone excels in different things and have different expertise. It is fortunate that my group members are all talented and also an expert in their own assigned part.

Mixlly Chron Uyang

We started our project by dividing all the task that were given by the leader. My team member ask to do a Gantt Chart so that it easy to track our progress. So, I volunteer to do the chart as I want to learn use the Excel. I list all the task on Gantt chart with the start date and end date so it will look systematically. I was also given opportunity to in charge of ejournal and website. I use blogspot as my medium of ejournal where the process of all task is putted in the blogspot. While for website,we used wix.com as our medium.Felicia and I in charge of the website and we will divide our task where every information of our project will be uploaded in the website. I explore a lot through this project, where I learn to create website using blogspot and wix.com which will be beneficial for next project. I also use various idea in creating the website so it will look interesting

Gerard Lian Lusat

In the week after we were given the tasks, we started off with some very good planning. Everything was going well as we expected. I personally learned how different materials works in different ways after doing some research. I also learned how to saw woods straight by using handsaw as before this I never knew how to use handsaw correctly. Other than that, I also learned how to use the drill to screw in screws to attach different parts of the ottoman chair but most importantly, this project can indirectly taught me how to work as a team.

Nurmala Mohd Amin

I am aware that group planning is important to make sure that everything is going smoothly within the group, and we managed to keep track on our progress thanks to the guide of the Gantt chart. Next, while working on my part for the survey creation, poster making and the product promotion via social media, I always reminded myself to ask the opinion from my group members because I believe that everyone’s opinions matter since this is a group project. I took their opinions and used it to improve my part of work to get better result for our project. At the end of the day, I was able to improve my skills in writing a better survey, designing a much more creative poster, and properly managing social media accounts. From this situation, I learned that patience and precision are to be emphasised while doing any task given in order to gain the needed skills individually as well as to produce a high-quality outcome for the group. I made sure that I gave all out in every task that I did, and I avoided a last-minute working style throughout the project. From this, it is crucial to note that effort plays an important role in everything that we do especially while working in a group.

Mixlly Chron Uyang

Our final project is the report writing which is expected to completed before 7/1/2022, but we managed to done it early than actual plan. From this project, I learn a lot about team work where we have to remind each of team members about their task and help them whenever they have problem in settling their task. Apart from that,I got to know each personality of each member where we keep motivate each other to be more productive and innovative in doing our project.

Gerard Lian Lusat

Lastly, we completed our projects earlier than we expected. This is because all the members of our groups cooperate well. Thanks to our group leader, Awangku who always reminded us to complete our tasks and make sure everyone do their part as we were told in the beginning of the project. Our ottoman chair works very well and was very stable. Although there were some imperfections, we can learn from the mistakes that were done throughout this project. It is normal to make some mistakes as this is the first time for us to conduct a project as a team and work together online. Despite the challenges that we have encountered, we managed to complete this project and achieved a deep sense of accomplishment

Awangku Mohammad Iqbal

Before we started to do the project, we are needed to form a team consists of 5 members which we had 2 males and 3 females in our group. So, the first thing that we did after forming a group was choosing a group leader so that the project will go with smooth flow. Then, I was chosen by them to be their group leader. I took the responsibility by creating a WhatsApp group chat as our discussion platform. Then I distributed the tasks equally to each member so that we can get our work done in time and also so that we can collect all the information in the group chat. Luckily, I got the responsible and determined members. We got to know every member personality by doing some ice breaking so that we can get the chemistry as a team.

Felicia Rachell

As soon as we are assigned to this workshop project, I rush to find my group, which consists of five people, including me. Luckily, in my course, I have my friend from my previous studies at Matriculation Sarawak, and we decided to be one group. I invited you to join my Whatsapp group to discuss further our Ottoman chair projects. So, we divided our tasks and parts equally among us to make it fair and square. I've been tasked with creating the website and poster. I am very grateful because people in my group are people who easily give their ideas and our projects go smoothly.

Awangku Mohammad Iqbal

When we started to do the project, I started to realize that teamwork and time management are very important. By having a Gantt chart, our progress can be monitor so we must do the task systematically. Before, I did not know that which woods are suitable in the making of the chair so asked some of my older family members about their opinions. I bought the woods at sent directly to my friend’s house. I found a cushion that I thought can be useful for the chair that we are making, instead of buying a new one. From this, I can save some of my budget by using recycled item from my home. Furthermore, during the making, recording and the editing process, I used all my creativity to produce a good quality video so that the community will be attracted to see our project video.

Felicia Rachell

For me, the most important thing about this project was the Gantt chart. It is because I had to put video, files, and something else that we must have on our website according to our Gantt chart. So, with the existence of the Gantt chart, I know how to arrange our website. Me and Mixlly created a website using Wix because it is easy to use. The hard part about doing the website is that we have to wait for my group to send me their part because my job is to insert their part into the website. Luckily, my group does their part faster than I do, so I do not have to wait for them to send their part to me. All of this is thanks to our leader, who always reminds us about our projects. For our poster, me and my friend discussed the design of our poster. After a few discussions, our poster is finally done.

Awangku Mohammad Iqbal

Actually, we finished our work early than what we expected it will be. This is because I kept reminding my team members to do their task if they forget. From this I learn that it is good to have someone that can motivate or remind us about our work so that our mindset can be changed to be more productive since all the members are doing the tasks determinedly so that they will have time to recheck if there are missing information. Through these, I think that we can produce a perfect team by having hardworking team members. Although it was tiring, but it was a great experience for example, I get to make new friends and spend time together when doing the project.

Felicia Rachell

Finally, all of us did our part quickly. I am proud because we successfully completed our project. From this project, I have learned many good things, such as teamwork, which is the key to getting our project done smoothly without the cooperation of our group. I do not think we can finish our project before the due date. This experience is really helpful for our future, especially when we have other projects and we start working later. It's because this project improved my communication skills and taught me how to converse politely with others, and we helped each other even though we were busy with our part.

AFTER

Nurmala Mohd Amin

When we were done with our project, we made a last discussion to check and finalise everything on the website. I am proud that we successfully finished our project on time. I believe that it is only made possible due to the teamwork and effort shown by every group member. Aside from teamwork, hardwork, and patience, I get to learn from this project that it is important to respect each other and to communicate nicely among the group members in order to avoid hard feelings and misunderstandings. In addition, I also get the chance to enhance my sense of responsibility through this group project especially in the context of working on the assigned task. Overall, it was a tough project, but it was fun at the same time since I managed to broaden my knowledge and to learn a lot of useful things and skills that I believe would be useful for me in the future.
